Conventional Acid Systems

HCl - Hydrochloric Acid

Hydrochloric acid is most commonly used for its strong dissolving power of calcium carbonate and other water formed or inorganic scales. Our conventional HCl acid systems are customizable depending on the conditions and damage mechanisms present downhole. The systems are augmented to manipulate acid strength, formulated to control the time required for spending, buffered to prevent precipitate formation, weighted to provide the best placement of the system downhole, and can be supplemented with a variety of additives.

Acid system additives allow for higher performance in damage removal and better control of the treatment system. More control of the acid reaction will ensure treatments are only targeting the damaging mechanisms prohibiting the well from performing at its optimum rate.  These low cost, low risk, targeted solutions ensure the acid systems are not inducing any further damage to the well.

The possible additives may include:

HCl:HF - Hydrochloric:Hydrofluoric Acid

HCl and HF acid are commonly mixed together to form an acid system for the dissolution of siliceous minerals. The HCl component of HCl:HF solution keeps the pH low and enhances the reaction of HF. The lower pH during the reaction process aids in the reduction of precipitation of harmful acid reaction products, often a downside of the hydrofluoric reaction. Before the development of new technologies such as, SoleAcid®, HCl:HF was the only affordable acid system with the power to dissolve silica and fines.

Our conventional HCl:HF mud acid systems are customizable depending on the conditions and damage mechanisms present downhole. The systems are augmented to manipulate the acid ratios, the acid strength, formulated to control the time required for spending, buffered to prevent precipitate formation, weighted to provide the best placement of the system downhole, and can be supplemented with a variety of additives.

Organic Acid Systems

Our conventional organic acid systems are a very low risk possibly high reward system. They allow for the removal of large quantities of inorganic scale without the damaging effects that a conventional HCl system could potentially have. For a more sensitive crude or higher temperatrue well conditions, an organic acid system is a great option as opposed to an HCl or HCl:HF system that may produce large quantities of unwanted byproducts. Our organic acid systems are often enhanced to allow for an even greater degree of scale removal. The strength of the acid and any enhancing systems are customized depending on the conditions and damage mechanisms present downhole.
